Kelly Miles Smart Strokes Annual Scientific Meeting 2025

Kelly Miles

Dr Kelly Miles is a stroke survivor and hearing scientist uniquely positioned to lead research at the intersection of stroke, hearing, and communication. Her lived experience of post-stroke aphasia and listening difficulties informs a translational research program focused on understanding and improving listening and communication following stroke. Dr Miles uses a range of techniques to index listening and communication difficulty, from co-designed qualitative methods through to next-generation sensor technologies. She leads several large-scale, industry-funded projects in collaboration with leaders in hearing health and technology, including Cochlear, Sonova, the Eriksholm Research Centre, and Google Research, which enables rapid translation of research into user-informed technologies and rehabilitation strategies. Her dual perspective as both scientist and survivor ensures that her work is grounded in lived experience and driven by outcomes that matter to those most affected. She is a 2025 Stroke Foundation Future Leader and recipient of the Google Award for Inclusion Research.
